“Play Therapy is based upon the fact that play is the child’s natural medium of self- expression. It is the opportunity which is given to the child to ‘play out’ his feelings and problems just as in certain types of adult therapy an individual ‘talks out’ his difficulties.” (Axline 1947)

Play Therapy with Paula Brown

Thank you for visiting my website. I imagine that if you are visiting it that you are thinking about a child who is finding things difficult. I am a play therapist here in Bristol, working with children and young people. I help them to help them work through obstacles so they can thrive.

Do follow this link to find out more about who I am and how to contact me. This page also has some feedback about my play therapy sessions which I offer from a playroom in Fishponds, Bristol. My page on play therapy gives more detail on how play therapy works. Do also watch the short video below.

Visit my posts page to listen to topics on a variety of subjects relevant to parenting and children. There is a page for children which explains play therapy in child-friendly language. Lastly, my storytelling website details my storytelling parties and sessions for schools, theatres and festivals and some stories for children.

All at sea

Blue Octopus is my independent play therapy practice. I named it Blue Octopus because I love the sea as well as octopi. There are also many sayings about the sea that relate to how we feel. Perhaps it’s because life at sea is so hard but also so joyful! We can be ‘all at sea’ or ‘ship shape’. We can be ‘dipping our toe in’ or ‘charting the waters’; ‘riding the waves’ or in ‘troubled waters’. We might ‘weigh anchor’, ‘rock the boat’ or simply feel like a ‘fish out of water’.
